Police Officers and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
The purpose of this site is to make more people aware and of the causes and effects of Post
Trauma Stress Disorder (PTSD) on law enforcement officers and other emergency personnel, and the danger it can pose if untreated, to the deputy/officer/fireman/paramedic/nurse/doctor, their loved ones, peers, their Department and the general public. Trauma Assessment Unit
The Trauma Assessment Unit conducts research on the biological effects of trauma with a goal for better treatment of those inflicted with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. An estimated 27-62% of women are affected by sexual abuse, and about 15% of individuals develop chronic PTSD after severe traumas. Individuals with PTSD are vulnerable to high levels of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, phobias, personality disorders, flashbacks, emotional numbing and nightmares.
