Legislation In The Works:
H.R. 4864 and H.R. 4850On July 25, the House voted unanimously 414-0 to pass H.R. 4864, "The Veterans Claims Assistance Act of 2000" directing the Department of Veterans Affairs to help veterans obtain evidence in support of their claims. This would restore the VA's long standing responsibility to assist veterans in developing their claims. Veterans will no longer have to present "well-grounded" claims which made it easier for unscrupulous and lazy VA adjudicators to shoot down claims.
Also by a unanimous vote, the House passed H.R. 4850, "The Veterans Benefits Act of 2000" which would increase compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and dependency and indemnity compensation for survivors of certain disabled veterans."
