Security prepare to combat Coronavirus

By ISIO [International Security Industry Organization]

No-one knows if this Coronavirus could turn into a pandemic but, at this moment in time, this must be seriously be considered.

A few months ago, ISIO suggested in articles that security managers must ensure that there is a contingency in the budget to obtain equipment or skills training in case of an unknown threat that could arrive out of the blue.

Any responsible managing or finance director must consider allocating

funding and preparing for this emerging threat because it has life impacting or life & death possibilities.

Considering Equipment, Manpower training and Policy

Training for Staff

Obviously, the biggest nightmare is not knowing who a threat until one can are truly see and hear the threat. The faster a person of interest is identified the better. A non-intrusive method to interview someone that is suspected of having flu symptoms. Consider the fact that people may lie or hide about their medical status because of fears. One may then need to determine where and who they were with over the past days. Subsequently, quick interviewing methods based on deception detection is required (ISIO highly recommends HIM Tool link below)

Strangely enough, you would be surprised how many people do not know how to wash their hands. Regardless – show them when talking to them ‘by soaping up between fingers and even fingernails’. Furthermore, ensure that bathrooms are stocked with medical soap.

Furthermore, train all, that touching others must be with medical gloves. Ensure that any cuts or open wounds must be quickly cleaned with disinfectant and securely covered with plasters

Equipment:

Some type of thermal detector be it connected to cctv or handheld to identify people that have high temperatures.

Medical gloves and face masks for all staff and specially security staff

Mouth-to-mouth respiration protectors for safety officers or staff familiar with first aid training

Consider Policy

It may be the case that  people may come into contact with many people. Some may be tested once and set free. Subsequently, all people must be closely continuously monitored for flu symptoms. Naturally, any educated HR professional in the company would be able to contribute towards policy besides the training of staff (perhaps security can assist in the training. The benefit of security staff assisting would be reinforcing the knowledge and heightening situational awareness which is a key factor for security awareness)

Furthermore, staff that are on travel trips must be supported by HR or Security in every which way. It is suggested that, HR and Security learning from this experience, to ensure that the staff that travel are provided a travel bag with the necessary items to protect themselves which should include masks, gloves and plasters.

UAV’s in Conventional Security: Will It Happen?

UAV’s in Conventional Security: Will It Happen? | #TpromoCom #Drone #UAV #Security | The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) in conventional security is almost a given when you stand back and look at the solution itself and what it can do to assist corporations as well as municipalities. Possibly one of the biggest hurdles that lie ahead of us, however, is public perception of its use and the intent behind those using it.

The following are a collection of news items that center on the use of UAV’s (i.e. Drones) in a variety of settings. The first is an article in #SDMag that touches on the current state of the industry in conventional security. Frankly, it’s well done and thoroughly researched. Case studies provide an in-depth look at how it’s being used, and surprisingly enough, we learn from Ford Motors that their use of drones has more to do with assisting security personnel than replacing them. Take a look. –Al Colombo

Did the White House Use Drone Killing Technology? | #TpromoCom #WhiteHouse #Drone #Kill | At about 3 a.m. on Monday morning, a small quadcopter drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle, crashed on the White House lawn. White House officials said that the drone, by itself, was unarmed and didn’t represent a threat. Authorities quickly located the owner, a government employee, who has managed (so far at least) to convince the Secret Service that he made an innocent mistake flying his drone outside of the White House in the wee hours of the morning. Wearables Market Headed for a Shakeup as Google Seeks to Acquire Fitbit

Wearables Market Headed for a Shakeup as Google Seeks to Acquire Fitbit | #TpromoCom  #Parks #Google #Wearables | According to Reuters and CNBC, Google (aka Alphabet) has made an offer to acquire Fitbit. This stands to considerably shake up the wearables space.

Fitbit is the number one wearables company in the US—Parks Associates consumer surveys find that among the 19% of heads of US broadband households that own and use wearables, Fitbit has nearly 60% penetration—twice that of its nearest competitor, Apple.

Looking specifically at smart watch models, Parks Associates finds that Fitbit smart watches and the Apple Watch are nearly neck and neck in terms of consumer adoption. Fitbit has been largely successful in getting its users to move from its lower-cost (and lower profit) fitness trackers, with Parks Associates consumer survey data finding that 40% of Fitbit users in US broadband households use one of its smart watch models.

A Google acquisition of Fitbit would make Google the number one name in the US wearables market overnight, and give it a highly useful entry point into the healthcare market. While there’s been some speculation that Google may be seeking to acquire Fitbit for its IP, it seems more likely that Fitbit’s strong brand and popularity among consumers would make it an acquisition a la Nest rather than the next Motorola.

However, Google also has its own smart watch platform—Wear OS—which is used to power smart watches from companies such as the Fossil Group, LG, Misfit, Casio, and Mobvoi.

What will an acquisition of Fitbit do to Google’s existing smart watch platform? While Google may seek to keep both alive for a while, it seems likely that Fitbit—the stronger, more popular brand—would receive the bulk of Google’s time, attention, and resources, leaving Wear OS to the fate of Google Inbox, Hangouts, and Google Reader. It’s too soon to tell for sure, but history isn’t exactly on Wear OS’s side.

The Cure for a Quick Comeback From a Restaurant Fire

The Cure for a Quick Comeback From a Restaurant Fire | #TpromoCom #Restaurant #Fire #Business | When a kitchen fire in a well established restaurant burns out of control, the outcome is all too often lost business, lost employees, and a lengthy comeback. The question is, how can you, as a restaurant owner, reduce the devastation, thus shortening the time it takes to rebuild and return to the successful business you once had? The quick answer is not to have one at all, but that’s not always possible.

Need help? Call 614-754-1393 or email ESC!

“The answer to that question is how well the fire protection company installed the fire suppression system that protects your kitchen appliances from fire,” says John Larkin, Senior Partner with Electronic Systems Consultants of Greater Ohio. “If they did their job right, it will only be a few minutes until the fire is extinguished, thus shortening the time before your operation is back to normal. On the other hand, if they didn’t do the job correctly, then the period of burn can be considerable, which could result in the complete destruction of your restaurant.”

The key to quickly knocking a fire down in a commercial restaurant kitchen involves three important things:

  1. Having a quality fire suppression installed that includes electric and/or gas shutoffs.
  2. A nozzle inside the ductwork and hood.
  3. Proper ongoing maintenance.

Number 3 includes checking the operation of the fire suppression system as well as the proper operation of the hood system and the exhaust duct that carries combustible fumes outside the restaurant.
