Security Industry Association Announces Winners of the 2020 SIA New Product Showcase Awards | #TpromoCom #SIA #Security #Awards | Leica Geosystems took the top honors in SIA’s annual awards program recognizing innovative security products in partnership with ISC West.
The Security Industry Association (SIA) has announced the 2020 winners of the SIA New Product Showcase Awards, the flagship awards program in partnership with ISC West recognizing innovative security products, services and solutions. Top among the winners – who were recognized July 9 during a virtual awards show – was Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, receiving the 2020 Best New Product Award.
Since its inception in 1979, the SIA New Product Showcase has been the security industry’s premier product awards program. New products are reviewed by a panel of judges with extensive industry experience, and in 2020, following significant deliberations, the 30 judges presented awards for technologies covering 23 product and service categories.
Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, received the Best New Product honor for its 3D Surveillance With Leica BLK247, submitted in the Emerging Technologies category.
The 3D Surveillance With Leica BLK247 is “a first-of-its-kind reality capture sensor for building security and operations,” said Leica Geosystems. “It is the latest product in the company’s BLK product line, a collection of reality capture, scanning and photogrammetry hardware and software. The BLK247 offers continuous, 24/7 LiDAR-based 3D monitoring and change detection within spaces. It does this using LiDAR, 3D digital fencing and continuous scanning to monitor buildings and spaces 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
The prestigious Judges’ Choice Award was presented to Suprema Inc. for the Airfob Patch product, submitted in the Access Control Devices & Peripherals Hardware – Wireless category.
“Airfob Patch is the world’s first mobile-to-RF-card signal translator, enabling mobile phones to communicate with the existing RF card readers,” said Suprema Inc. “Wire, batteries nor construction is required for installation. Airfob Patch charges itself by using the existing RF field signals transmitted from the RF reader. It transforms the RF fields into its own power source.”
Additionally, John Spooner – executive vice president at Alarm Detection Systems and an active volunteer judge in the SIA New Product Showcase program – received the New Product Showcase Merit Award, which recognizes an individual or company who, through their support of the New Product Showcase, demonstrates a commitment to the vision and mission of the program, contributes to its success and promotes the advancement of SIA and the security industry overall.
“SIA is proud to present John Spooner with the 2020 SIA New Product Showcase Merit Award; John has not missed a single SIA New Product Showcase event since he began as an active volunteer judge in the program 17 years ago,” said Chris Grniet, chair of the SIA New Product Showcase Committee. “He has always been a fair and honest participant and has never hesitated to jump in and help whenever we need him. He has been exemplary in his commitment, participation and ability to help the group reach consensus.”
“Following hours of panel-driven judging and technology demonstrations, SIA is thrilled to recognize the 2020 winners of the SIA New Product Showcase Awards for their innovative products, services and contributions representing the best new offerings in the market,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “SIA applauds all the honorees who received awards in 2020 and particularly Leica Geosystems and Suprema Inc. for standing out in this highly competitive field of entrants to earn the Best New Product and Judges’ Choice distinctions. Additionally, we congratulate John Spooner on receiving the 2020 New Product Showcase Merit Award in recognition of his many valuable contributions to this premier program.”

The Integration of Security And IoT | #Verdafero #Security #IoT #Monitoring | Security has many faces, whether it’s the hardened, Grade 1 locks on all the perimeter man doors throughout a building, electronic access control, video surveillance cameras, fire detection equipment, or the IoT devices that monitors a variety of critical services, such as temperature, humidity, air flow, pressure, or the integrity and quality of any one of several utilities that clients depend on.
If there was ever a time when integration between the various facets of security, life safety, and general commercial Internet of Things (IoT) might occur, it’s now.
The Central Monitoring Station (CMS) that Security Integrators and Alarm Dealers use is equipped to monitor the physical security elements of a facility, but not necessarily IoT devices that output analog data. Not only that, but traditional CMS’ are not readily capable of analyzing multiple streams of Big Data (BD) for anomalies that might occur. But there is a solution to this problem that is capable of including the positive attributes of a CMS.
In the area of Utility BD, “Verdafero’s Utility and IoT monitoring and analytics platform uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to capture, analyze, report and predict variable, broad-based utility expense information found from many data sources,” says Alastair Hood, Ph.D. and CEO of Verdafero.
Verdafero’s Cloud-based processing center will utilize your favorite CMS’ API (Application Programming Interface), thus allowing your CMS to act on alerts issued by the AI platform.
According to Hood, “Using Verdafero, security service providers can now actively analyze and compare the performance of similar client properties and benchmark them against other properties within their portfolio to help clients better understand the opportunities to reduce overhead expenses.”

pv-magazine — Cities ‘could generate hundreds of times more solar power than they do today’ | #TpromoCom #SolarPower #PV #GreenEnergy | While applauding the rooftop solar progress of dozens of cities, a report from Environment Texas offers policy options for further progress. Per capita solar leaders are Honolulu, San Diego, Albuquerque, San Jose and Burlington, Vermont.
Twenty-six U.S. cities have at least 50 watts of PV per capita—and they’re not all in the sunniest states.
Honolulu is in a league of its own, with 841 watts of PV per capita, as a study from the nonprofit Environment Texas reports. San Diego, with 295 watts per capita, leads the rest of the pack.

pv-magazine — Auditor blocks solar developer accounts over missing deposits | #TpromoCom #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #Fraud | State-owned solar company Panda Green will miss Friday’s deadline for publishing its audited figures for last year and new owners Beijing Energy have announced the formation of a committee to investigate the payment of $144 million in deposits to secure development rights for projects which never happened.
The astonishing oversight which appears set to cost Chinese solar developer Panda Green a thumping RMB1,022 million (US$144 million) – and which was highlighted by pv magazine last month – will see the company auditor refuse to sign off the 2019 accounts by the deadline stipulated by the Hong Kong exchange where the company is listed.

Verdafero’s Water Utility Monitoring Saves Big! | #Verdafero #WaterMonitoring #UtilityMonitoring | The overall cost of metered water is rising. Anyone who owns a home or business in an area where water is provided by a municipality knows how true this is.
According to CBS News, “Americans this year will pay an average of $104 per month in water and wastewater bills, up more than 30% in less than a decade” (https://cbsn.ws/3fJxyi4).
As an alarm dealer or security integrator, you may be wondering, “How can I sell Utility Monitoring to an established client when it’s hard enough to approach them about updating their aged alarm system?”
The answer to that is simple, you educate them as to what Utility Monitoring can do for them. First and foremost, with Verdafero’s Cloud-based analytics, you can alert them when a leak occurs. This same service also can alert your client when a piece of equipment is in the process of requiring maintenance.
Because Vertafero’s Cloud-based analytical computing system uses Big Data, Machine Learning (ML), you can monitor several utilities at the same time, such as:
Monitoring is accomplished using IoT-based sub-meters equipped with WiFi or Ethernet, in conjunction with your regular central station. Verdafero also can suggest one if required; and we can help you put it all together!

The monitoring of intrusion alarm systems, closed circuit television, access control, fire alarms and other is a common way to create a bountiful and reliable supply of cash flow. Not only does it provide operating capital, but when it comes to retirement, when it’s time to sell the business, it will jack the going price by many times.
If you’re a security integrator or an alarm dealer, you can add considerably to the RMR you’re making every month now by adding Utility Monitoring to your list of monitored systems. Believe me, someone’s going to do it, and so why not you?
