Gradiant, top 10 in the international competition CVPR 2019

Gradiant, top 10 in the international competition CVPR 2019 | #TpromoCom #AccessControl #Biometric #Security | The challenge focused on evaluating the best facial recognition technologies to detect spoofing attacks using multimodal information.

The competition was held in the framework of the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) event, to be celebrated next week in California. Gradiant is presenting its work focused on facial anti-spoofing Gradiant did it again. Our biometric technology experts recently participated in ‘Chalearn Workshop on Face Spoofing Attack’ of CVPR 2019, an international competition focused on evaluating the performance of facial biometric systems for spoofing attack detection using multimodal information. The challenge focused on using the latest advances on artificial intelligence research to create robust and accurate anti-spoofing algorithms.

Gradiant’s team ranked worldwide 8th in this competition, with more than 300 biometric technology experts all over the world. The work of our colleagues was in the top 10 teams worldwide and second in the European top, in advance of other leading organizations in facial recognition technology such as Idiap Research Institute or the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), CAS of China.

The most important machine vision conference in the world
The competition was held within the framework of the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Congress (CVPR 2019), to take place from June 16th to 20th in Long Beach (California). “CVPR is the international reference event in artificial intelligence applied to artificial vision” pointed out Daniel González, director of Multimodal Information at Gradiant.

The team is going to present ‘Deep Anomaly Detection for Generalized Face Anti-Spoofing’ paper in California. It is focused on a facial anti-spoofing proposal for the detection of anomalies by using deep learning techniques without the need to process a whole video, just by using RGB images. With this information, the algorithm we have developed can determine whether the person in the picture is real or it is a spoofing attack.

“Presenting our solution in the CVPR, beyond the position obtained in the competition, is a recognition of the quality of Gradiant’s technologies,” Gonzalez said. This work is going to be exhibited in oral and poster format during the event, and attendees can discover our technology in detail on Monday 17th June from 11:00 to 11:20 hours in space 102 B.

As a result of our expertise in biometric facial recognition solutions, we take advantage of our identity verification solutions to solve competition’s challenge: to detect spoofing attacks using multimodal information (information from three information sources: RGB images, depth and IR).

Instead of using a card to gain access to a door, as in this photo, biometrics allows you to use a physical trait, like the features of your face.

Accredited international background
It’s not the first time that Gradiant gets a great score in a competition like this. Back in 2017, our facial recognition system obtained the highest score in all test at the IJCB 2017 conference, ahead of companies such as FUJITSU Laboratories LTD (Japan), CpqD and University of Campinas (Brazil) or Idiap Research Institute (Switzerland). In addition our colleagues presented our solutions at the most important biometrics congress, the International Conference on Biometrics (ICB 2019).

With more than ten years of experience in biometric research, Gradiant has been able to transfer secure technologies to sectors such as banking, health and security. Following this philosophy, we make available our biometric technologies for mobile devices in three complementary modalities: face, voice and signature recognition.

56% of all light vehicles in the US will be actively connected cars by 2022

56% of all light #vehicles in the US will be actively connected #cars by 2022 | #TpromoCom #IoT #Internet | Parks Associates estimates the US will have 169 million actively connected cars by 2022, representing 56% of all light vehicles.

The firm’s 23rd-annual CONNECTIONS™: The Premier Connected Home Conference, May 21-23 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, features the Connected Car Corner, by InstallerNet, and a special session on the connected car-smart home crossover to examine the latest innovations in this market area and the opportunities for vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to extend their IoT solutions to the vehicle.

The Connected Car Corner, by InstallerNet, features innovations from Alpine, Owlcam, Reviver, SiriusXM, Support.com, VOXX, and Waylens, among others. Solutions on display include Android Auto and Apple Car Play, dash camera recording, customer lifecycle support, digital key control and license plate, driver scoring, remote engine start, radar detection, GPS navigation, safety and security features, voice activation, WiFi hotspot, and wireless backup camera.

The session “Connected Cars: Extension for the Smart Home” features the following speakers:

  • Brian Brackenbury, Director, Connected Products, Gentex Corporation
  • Jan-Philipp Gehrmann, Director, Head of Automotive Sales & Marketing Silicon Valley, NXP
  • Andy Hodge, CEO, Founder, Owl Cameras Inc.
  • Katie McMahon, VP and GM, SoundHound Inc.
  • Dr. Alan Messer, CTO, Mojio

“From a technology perspective, many of the building blocks are already in-place for cars to connect to the smart home; however, ensuring a simple, intuitive, easy-to-use interface is critical for a non-distracted driving experience,” said Brian Brackenbury, Director, Connected Products, Gentex Corporation. “While voice has made some great strides forward, the automobile environment has factors like road noise, fellow passengers, and noisy kids that don’t always make voice the right choice for a user interface. Aggregating the fragmented services into a simple, one-touch interface, like HomeLink Connect, will ensure the end user gets something they can actually use every day, in all conditions!”

“The interrelationships between our homes, devices, and vehicles are becoming smarter and more seamless,” said Jan-Philipp Gehrmann, Sr. Director, Head of Automotive Sales & Marketing Silicon Valley, NXP. “I look forward to joining the Premier Connected Home Conference to share more about these exciting developments and how new automotive technologies are making transport increasingly autonomous, safer, more environmentally sound, and securely connected.”

“Connected car is what’s next after the connected home. Just like it is in the home, video security is at the heart of what consumers and businesses need for their cars and trucks,” said Andy Hodge, CEO, Founder, Owl Cameras Inc.

“Our burgeoning global population is straining our housing supply worldwide. We must do everything we’re able to avoid a tangential energy crisis, and smart apartment technology is uniquely positioned to do so,” said Felicite Moorman, CEO, STRATIS IoT.

“With the adoption of voice AI technology in connected cars as a top priority in the automotive industry, we’re at a tipping point for leveraging voice across all industries,” said Katie McMahon, VP/GM, SoundHound. “I look forward to telling the story of how integrating voice AI into cars and other Internet of Things devices can vastly improve consumers’ customized experiences, as well as allow companies to maintain their own brands.”

“The smart home ecosystem is expanding rapidly,” said Dr. Alan Messer, CTO, Mojio. “As consumers realize the value of an increasingly connected lifestyle, innovative players like Mojio and Vivint are enabling the next generation of consumer IoT services that unite the capabilities of connected cars and smart homes to unlock enhanced safety, security, and convenience protection for the two most valuable assets – our homes and our cars.”
