Al's Views, Personal Thoughts

Is There A Common Agenda?

27 September 2002

By Al Colombo

When I was a growing young man, I loved the folk songs of the 50s and early 60s, beatnicks were my heros (hey Manard!), and Radio Moscow and Radio Havana Cuba were my shortwave propaganda/listening posts of choice. I grew up with a leftist mentality and I learned to mistrust the government well before I was in high school.

So, what happened to me? Why did I change from Left to Right? Or did I? As I watch and listen, more so as I read more and more about politics and I study contemporary social issues, I have come to understand that what is Left in the U.S. is often Right in "other" socialist nations. While socialists in the U.S. were promoting Communism, radicals in Communistic countries were promoting anti-communist government action.

FYIOver the last several years, I have come to better understand the world in which I am. However, the more I learn about this place, the more questions I have and the more I come to find that I don't know. As I listen to others talk about the issues of the day, such as the War on Terrorism, the World Trade Center, Osama ben Laden, and, now, Iraq, I have noted one common trait, not theme: Parrot-like symptoms where nearly everyone simply repeats over and over what they are told via the mass-indoctrination tool that we so collectively call "our television."

So, what's the point?

The point is this. The mass media belongs to someone, and you can bet that most of it either belongs to, or is controlled by, a relatively small group of men and women who appear to have a unified agenda. Why and how can I say that? Because when you hear and see the same things toted on all the networks, over and over, day after day, week after week, you know that there MUST be extensive collaboration and planning going on behind the scenes between them all.

This spells "AGENDA"--whether or not you want to believe it.

So, what's the bottom line? It's this. Would you knowingly drink gasoline, even if it was only a tiny bit mixed in with your glass of milk each day? Would you knowingly smoke a cigarette made with a small tad of toxic plastics in the paper around it? Would you knowingly move next door to a nuclear plant that had a radiation leak, even if you knew it wouldn't kill you for decades to come?

Of course not, and yet you pay good money for television usage, despite the fact that there are powerful people working to intoxicate you and your children with content that is not good for you or this country--or the world as far as this issue goes. So why are you so free with your money? Why not stop this needless indoctrination? Why not be more selective in what you and your family watch?

I mean, who's really terrorizing America here?

In closing, please take a minute to enjoy one of the most well known Bible passages that was used in a folk song of my youth. See if you can remember it...

Turn, Turn, Turn

There is an appointed time for everything,
and a time for every thing under the heavens.

A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to tear down, and a time to build.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them;
a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.

What advantage has the worker from his toil? I have considered the task that God has appointed for the sons of men to be busied about. He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without man's ever discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.

Eccl 3:1-11
