Society's Kids In Big Trouble

Juvenile courts handled more than 1.5 million delinquency cases in 1994, representing a 5% increase over the number of cases in 1993. Surprisingly enough, 336,100 cases involved people offenses, 3,000 of which were related to criminal homicide, 5,400 to forcible rape, 37,000 robbery, 85,300 aggravated assault, 177,700 simple assault, 10,000 to other kinds of violent sex offenses and 17,800 to other people-oriented offenses.

Comparing 1994 figures with that of 1985, criminal homicides increased by 144%, forcible rape by 25%, robbery by 53%, aggrivated assault by 134%, simple assault by 91%, other types of violent sex offenses by 66% and other people-type offenses by 91%.
