THOUGHT FOR THE DAY 29 March 2004
Perhaps It's Time For A Third Party
A few weeks ago while at one of my favorite book stores, one of the owners, who just happens to also work at Timken Roller Bearing, said to me, "I think this go round I'm going to vote for Kerry." Because last election she voted Republican, of course I asked her why. She replied, "Because the Democrats seem to have opened their eyes now on the subject of lost jobs."
I was somewhat shocked by her statement, and so I responded, "But don't you recall that what the Democrats are saying now about keeping our jobs in country the Republicans chanted when Clinton was in?"
"I don't know about that, but I do know that the Democrats are now ready to do something about it," she replied.
Well, I could not let this one go by without setting the record straight. "Haven't you figured it out yet, but no matter what party holds the White House, the same all-important agendas continue to march along at the White House? In other words, no matter what they say or do, no matter what party happens to be in office, globalization and the lost jobs continue on as before."
Personally, I can see this as clear as day. Now, why are so many others unable to discern this fact? All you have to do is quietly study the issues and be old enough to have seen this over a period of time. And yet, so many older Americans have actually forgotten the details behind former presidencies. Let us hope this time our fellow Americans get it right...
"Perhaps it is time we consider voting for a third party."
