Don't Hold Your Breath
Who's stacking the deck in Yugoslavia?

Serb Leader Trails
Yugoslav Rivals Claim Victory

Opposition parties claimed to have beaten Milosevic despite reports of voter intimidation and fraud. Milosevic's Socialist Party, however, said that Milosevic was ahead in the vote count....

If Kostunica's campaign claimed that its own monitoring showed its condidate had 57% of the vote compared with 33% for Milosevic. Milosevic, however, said he had 50% of the vote compared with 31% for Kostunica. (Kostunica, the challenger, is a pro-West, minor politician.)

USA Today, 9 Sept 2000

Over the weekend, while listening to Radio Netherlands, a Dutch shortwave radio station based in the Netherlands, I learned that the "people" on the street who oppose Slobodan Milosevic had supposedly decided not to vote in the Yugoslav election at all. They were going to boycott the election because, according to the Dutch radio station, they worried that if the pro-West candidate, Vojislav Kostunica, were to win that the West would work their magic and turn Yugoslavia into what they want it to be, not what the people of that country wanted it to be.

According to the radio announcer, who acted a bit surprised, said that this included Albanians in Kosovo!

Don't listen to the talking heads!
Don't listen to the talking heads!
Now, we're suppose to believe that the opposition won--although all the votes were not entirely counted when the press began to claim victory for Kostunica.

Add to this the fact that despite the fact that the votes had not yet been entirely counted that the heads of various nations went on public record that they considered Kostunica the winner!

The opinion of this author is that you cannot believe what you hear or read in our media today. No matter whether Milosevic won or not, it's pretty clear that the "West" is bound and determined to make sure he did not.

The question is, when are we, the people of the United States, going to demand more of our media? When are we going to say, "enough is enough; either clean up your act and stop promoting the interests of a certain group of insiders, rich elite insiders, and begin reporting the news and nothing more?".

Although this entire election business stinks to high heaven, don't hold your breath. --Al Colombo
