According to Fox News, at the Millennium Summit in New York, when Fidel Castro took the podium, he covered the timing light that tells the speaker when his time is almost up. According to the newsman, this is typical of Cuba's leader. Castro then stated that as he suspected, the rich nations are taking advantage of the poorer ones. The headline on Fox News on-line had gotten my attention said, "Castro demands rich nations share the wealth."

No, I don't support Communism or Socialism. No, I have not broken a long tradition held by U.S. Presidents by shaking the man's hand, although I don't know what significance this has, enough so that the White House recently went out of their way to say that their Commander and Chief hadn't gone out of his way to see Castro. But, all of this offers food for thought as hard industry continues to flee the United States.
One of the results of the disappearance of high-paying, non-skilled jobs is the ultimate loss of tax dollars. But not to worry, you and I will surely make up the difference. What did I say? Well, as the brunt of U.S. workers make less and less money to pay taxes with, you can almost bet that someone will have to make up the difference. Since we're the folks paying ALL the bills here, it's going to come out of our pockets.
Maybe Castro has a point.
The question is, how to fix it. Perhaps we need to do away with these treaties that primarily serve transnationalists. This would assure that small countries, like Cuba, are not taken advantage of. It will restore and assure industrial jobs in the United States and it will go a long way toward the assurance that this country remains a world power. History bears it out that only nations with a strong industrial base become and remain strong.
Some would say, shame on you, Al. We owe it to the global community to provide jobs, to spread the wealth, but I maintain that spreading the wealth is nothing more than Communism, which lives to distribute the wealth. Ask yourself, Who's Wealth? You and I work hard for every dime we have. We work from January to May every year to pay our taxes. I wish no other nation harm, but who's wealth are we spreading here?
I recall in school learning how Socialism/Communism cannot ultimately work because it often rewards laziness. There is little or no incentive to work, to improve, to be innovative, to create, to generate, etc. That is what we want for America? We're headed that direction as we move toward a global government with teeth, and you can bet that this is exactly what this Millennium Summit is all about: a global government with tremendous powers.
As the brunt of the world turns Socialism/Communism, what will happen to our way of life? For example, the UN is working to eliminate the veto power of five major nations, and we're one of them. No American works in any of the top 10 positions in the UN. There are 7 basic treaties that the Secretary General is insisting all nations adopt, and one of them will give parental rights to the village, taking it away from the true and rightful parents. Is this what you want for America? These are only a small sampling of what is now going on in New York City.
Food for thought, yes?
