GIANT KILLERS ORG ( 02/18/04) -- Recently I received an article about General 'Black Jack' Pershing from a friend who like me, has an interest in history, especially military history. I thought it interesting enough to share it with you after telling some recent high school graduates in my bayou about it. Of course, with the level of education being what it is today even here in the bayou none of the young people I work with had any idea who the general was! One even told me that he thought General Pershing was a Confederate General from Louisiana! This lack of knowledge on the part of my neighbors reinforced my idea of addressing how things have changed while informing the people who do not know of General 'Black Jack' Pershing and his successful technique for dealing with Muslim terrorists over eighty years ago!

In 1910, General Pershing was serving, as a Military Governor in the Philippines where there were a number of terror attacks on the United States forces by Muslim extremists. The general captured 50 terrorists and had them tied to posts for execution. He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the now horrified terrorists. Muslims detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won't even touch pigs at all, nor any of their by-products. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood. Etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise ( and those virgins) and doomed to hell! The soldiers then soaked their bullets in the pigs blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad. The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped the terrorist's bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc. They let the 50th man go. And for the next forty-two years, there was not a single Muslim extremist attack anywhere in the world!

Of course, the ACLU was not in existence then, a General in Command had authority to do whatever he deemed necessary to protect his men, and to complete the mission assigned him. Maybe it is time for this segment of history to repeat itself, maybe in Iraq? But wait!

Have we not recently had a certain Lieutenant Colonel West encounter grief with the Army and news media by just firing a pistol close to a Muslim terrorist head in order to get information that saved some of the lives of the men he commanded?

My friend and I slightly disagree on this situation. He asked, "Where do we find another 'Black Jack' Pershing?" My question is "How long will it take for us to get the resolve to do what we know is right for us and let world opinion quit influencing our actions in any arena, military or political?" We both agree that we already have leaders like 'Black Jack' Pershing, General George Patton, General Darby of Ranger fame, General Emerson, General 'Howling' Smith and perhaps even a General George Washington just waiting for the opportunity to step up when we offer them the opportunity. It's just a matter of time.

Once again, I believe we should and could, "learn from history'
Isn't it amazing though 'how times have changed?'

That's my opinion! "This Is Still America!"
