Welcome to the Village of Roswell, Ohio (c)2003 Allan B. ColomboNew feather-light metals stronger than any material before known to mankind; microprocessor chips that process information faster, more efficiently using light rather than electrons and silicon; power cells that store more energy than a room full of batteries made a mere decade ago; stealth aviation technology that enables large bombers to escape enemy radar—these and many other interesting advancements have appeared, making life easier, safer, faster, and more risk free.

Just where are these advanced technologies coming from—the mind of men? Some say not, that the rate of advancement is far in excess of what should be reasonable. And yet, many of the scientists who spend countless hours in the lab would argue otherwise. Oh, and did I forget to mention their spouses, waiting patiently for them at the end of each long, exasperating day?

In a documentary aired some years ago concerning the alleged crash of a UFO (unidentified flying object) near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, the son of an Army investigator, the first investigator to examine the Roswell wreckage, spoke concerning his father, who had returned home that night with odds and ends from the crash sight.

According to the son, what he saw that night defied explanation. He told of feather-light struts of enormous strength with strange markings on them. He also mentioned paper-thin pieces of sheet metal, akin to tin foil, that could not be torn. One of the most interesting properties of the sheet metal, as told by the Army investigator's son, was it's ability to return to its original condition, no matter what he or his father did to it. When it was crumpled up and let go, it automatically returned to its flat, unwrinkled state. Today, mankind has similar metals with a "memory."

Others in the documentary told of relatives who had, prior to their deaths, told loved ones of their role in the Roswell crash and subsequent cover up. One woman told on the program how her husband told her about driving the injured/dead occupants of the alleged alien craft to a hanger on a military base. Rumors even existed that one of them survived, later to die.

On July 28, 1995, the General Accounting Office (GAO), Washington, D.C., released an official report on the 1947 Roswell Crash. The opening page of this report states, "After nearly 50 years, speculation continues on what crashed at Roswell. Some observers believe that the object was of extraterrestrial origin. In the July 1994 *Report of Air Force Research Regarding the Roswell incident*, the Air Force did not dispute that something happened near Roswell, but reported that the most likely source of the wreckage was from a balloon-launched classified government project designed to determine the state of Soviet nuclear weapons research. The debate on what crashed at Roswell continues."

Army regulations of that time period required that all records of aviation-related accidents had to be maintained indefinitely. GAO investigators found only four records involving military aircraft, all of which took place after July 8, 1947, the day when it was reported that a flying disk had been recovered. Further investigation revealed an FBI teletype message, dated July 8, 1947, and a history report involving the 509th Bomb Group and Roswell Army Airfield that clearly noted the recovery of a flying disk.

Further investigation revealed that additional records from that time period had been destroyed. According to the GAO report, "The document deposition form does not indicate what organization or person destroyed the records and when or under what authority the records were destroyed." The report also mentioned that a thorough investigation of documents of that time period from the Air Force's Project Blue Book department revealed no mention of a Roswell crash. Through the Freedom of Information Act, no other government agency provided information on this incident.

In conclusion, the Roswell incident continues to mystify some while others have already closed the book on the issue. But, allow me to leave you with one last thought. The Army investigator's son also mentioned that the wreckage from the crash was spread out over a large area that took up more than an acre of farm land. Knowing that a balloon crash would not normally cause this kind of destruction over such a large land mass, doesn't it make one wonder what really crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in July of 1947?
