Letter to President Clinton on the International Criminal Court

The John Birch Society sent a formal letter today to President Clinton strongly urging him not to sign the International Criminal Court treaty as a last act of his presidency prior to a December 31st ICC deadline. The letter notes the following key points:

* Adopting the ICC would make all Americans subject to trial, in a foreign land, before a standing United Nations tribunal composed of jurists from foreign nations - many of which have no understanding of, or sympathy for, the concept of constitutionally protected individual rights.

* Although the Clinton administration has made it clear that the president prefers to rule by executive decree, any treaty must be ratified by the Senate.

* Whether Americans are arraigned before a foreign tribunal, or our courts are re-configured to carry out UN "laws" and apply UN standards of "justice," the outrage against our constitutional order, individual liberties, and national independence would be the same.
