Thank you for contacting me regarding the Property Owners Access to Justice Act of 1997. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you may know, S. 1204 would grant property owners involved in legal disputes under federal or state law more immediate access to the federal courts rather than having to first exhaust administrative and state court remedies.
The Senate Judiciary Committee, of which I am a member, held a hearing on S. 1204 on October 7, 1997. The House passed a similar bill, H.R. 1534, on October 22 by a vote of 248-178. Should the Senate Judiciary Committee or the full Senate consider any property rights legislation, I will be sure to keep your views in mind.
