Dear Honorable Senator Voinovich;

Thank you for following up on my inquiry regarding the banning of imported gas masks so far as the State Department goes. The letter from Barbara Larkin, Assist. Secretary, Legislative Affairs, U.S. State Dept., was important in that it tells who is responsible for this action, if the allegation is true (my original letter is enclosed).

Could you please take the time and check this with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) regarding the question of whether they are denying permits for the importation of gas masks? Perhaps you could inquire regarding the number of permits approved and disallowed over the past five to ten years. This would provide a valuable view at whether there is any validity to this rumor.

Many thanks for following up on my query thus far. I might add that your office is the only one of the two Ohio Senators and one House of Representative connected to this district that even bothered to reply. I'm not sure what that says, but in my book it means that you're obviously on the job and that you care about your constituents.
