Dear Honorable Senator/Congressman;
Please find a way to stop the military action yet to take place in Kosovo by NATO troops. This is not what NATO was intended for. This is a civil war in a sovereign country. We have no business taking part in an illegal operation of this kind. Would we want NATO to attack U.S. troops on U.S. soil or our citizens because of the actions of alledged domestic terrorists? Don't you want to continue to regulate and control what happens here in the United States without outside interference?
The arguement that "U.S. envoy Richard Holbrooke failed to persuade Milosevic to accept a plan that calls for up to 28,000 NATO troops to patrol Kosovo" (USA Today, 24 March 99) is flawed. Isn't that like asking you, the U.S. Congress, to allow U.N., NATO troops to patrol U.S. streets because of the actions of these alledged domestic terrorists--or your actions against them. Would you allow the U.N. to "police" U.S. cities and streets? Of course not;.
If you endorse what NATO and this administration intends to do in Kosovo, then you will have signed on to an aggressor's attack plan. Please find a way to stop the use of U.S. troops in military action abroad. Never before have we had so many special operations initiated by a single President. Something seems terribly wrong here and I hope that you will continue to work toward a return to common sense and respect for other nations' sovereignty.
Regards,
Allan B. Colombo
