Some of the information that comes across my desk is amazingly depressing. The lease of a major naval port to a foreign power is not a matter to take lightly. If it were not for a similar lease between the U.S. Government and Cuba, the Guantanamo U.S. Naval Base would not exist today. More pointedly, having diplomatic immunity means that the Chinese government can do whatever they want, bring troops in, weapons, etc., without any oversight on the part of the U.S. Government.
Since I entered these Long Beach Naval Base pages to the Rumor Mill, the facts have substantiated that this fiasco is indeed not a rumor, but hard, cold reality. Thus, I am moving these pages from the Rumor Mill section to the Alerts section, and rightly so! --Al Colombo
Let's see what others are saying about this situation:

The COSCO debacle is being put in the "regulated" press, also, the Rep even
carried it. I don't know if you've been reading the mail about it here on the
forum, but American taxpayers are to build a larger dock at Long Beach at a
cost of 200 million, and the Chinese are going to pay 14.5 million a year to
rent it for a 99 year lease. The base would fall under diplomatic immunity, and
not be subject to search. Ttyl, bye!

======= Al Colombo said: ======== Please see my post to Pat about the white house intervention in the deal. They
are rightfully really raising "hay" about the matter on the American Freedom
Network radio.
For anyone having unlimited internet, there are some great audio net programs
whereby one can access a site, and click on an audio icon, and receive radio
broadcasts through the net. Sounds really stupid at first, why in the world
would anyone want to listen to radio on the net? Well you can hear the real
news of what is going on in this country while the mainstream communist pravda
press prints front page news about Howard Stern's private body parts, and O.J.,
and the little Ramsey girs\l, etc.
A site to begin browsing from: http://truthradio.com
This is William Palmquist's home page for the KDNA radio station in Delano
Calif. Palmquist hosts an outstanding show called "To Free America" If you
visit his site, click on the flashing radio tower to receive the audio.
Ttyl, bye!

====== Pat V. said: ===== There are some startling facts about that facility:
The Chinese will pay $14.5 million per year to rent the facility. On a similar thread, Calif. Sen. Diane Finestine is one of six congress
critters that was given large sums of money by the Chinese communists in order
to influence the elections. She, like clinton, is going to give the money back.
It has been documented that the FBI warned those six congress critters about
the investigation. and still clinton claims that he knew nothing about any of
it. (Still another hand caught in the cookie jar?)
Senators Finestine and Barbara Boxer are calling for some sort of investigation
about the Long Beach facility, and has mentioned that the clinton should have
told congress about the matter, as it is definitely a matter of national
security, and that he overstepped his bounds and may be placing the U.S. in
peril by his actions. (My commentary..... what a laugh, these two jerks are
some of the biggest players in this loss of American freedoms movement. I
suppose they'll want Reno to appoint some 'independent' investigator like
Kenneth Starr who has helped cover up Whitewater so well?)
There are increasing numbers of Americans demanding that impeachment
proceedings be brought against this white house for all the treasonous acts
that they have done, and continue to do.

Yes, I recently saw the reports about this happening. Seems the Senate
Select Committee on Intelligence is none too pleased. I concur with their
opinion. Admittedly, Long Beach is going to have to find someone to fill the
US$52 million economic vacuum left behind with the departure of the Navy from
the Long Beach Naval Station. It appears that the President decided against
hearing from the CIA or the National Security Council (against standard
procedure).
My primary concern is that with control of the Station handed over to the
China Ocean Shipping Companu, illegal smuggling of arms (at the least) will
be greatly facilitated. They (COSCO) have already proven their willingness
to bribe US government officials to avoid paying tariffs and are highly
suspect in a recent case involving the smuggling of AK-47s into Oakland, CA.
Of lesser concern is the detaining of six of the company's vessels for
violations of international safety regulations.
However, by far the greatest concern is the 1993 report that a US Navy vessel
was assigned to shadow of their ships transiting the Persian Gulf in response
to reports that the COSCO vessel could be carrying chemical weapons.
In any event, we can safely say that COSCO has demonstrated its willingness
to operate in a variety of illegal manners.
US$14 million per year for 10 years, plus the option for COSCO to expand a
further 150 acres (at US taxpayer expense)?
Sounds like lying down with the devil to me, if you'll pardon the expression.
