EDITOR'S NOTE: Since the initial Katrina event took place, after the knee jerk reaction was over and the facts came out regarding delay of help in the affected states, I changed my stance on this issue. I did so because it became apparent to me that the Governor of Louisiana as well as the Mayor of New Orleans were both responsible for not taking action earlier. We all know the stories that we have heard and we have also heard these two regional and local officials try to deflect responsibility. They know the truth even if we don't. (10/23/05) Federal Help in Affected Coastal States The Mayor of New Orleans has commented via mass media on how he's talked to Washington over and over and all he gets is, "Help is coming, help is on its way." He says help hasn't arrived yet. It's totally inconceivable to me that the Federal Government hasn't done enough to truly help these folks. Where is the military might when you need it? Oh, it's fighting other people's wars Keeping the peace for the United Nations Building nation states where we are not truly wanted or appreciated One thing is for certain, it's not in this country where our men and women can truly serve THIS nation. We're closing bases, shipping National Guardsmen off to places unknown, and we, the folks who pay the bills, sit with our pants down. Is something wrong with this picture?
